Best Self-Care Books and Journals of 2020

I’ve recommended these books so many times this year it was time to make a list! These are the books that helped me get through the year that was 2020.

Self-Care Check-In by GG Renee Hill (guided journal): GG’s guided journal is a gentle and insightful exploration of yourself. Each page offers three prompts following the format Reflect, Focus, Do. I write directly in the journal. GG believes in holistic self-care, a concept she discussed when I had her on the podcast (Episode 31 - a must listen!), and you feel this in her guided journal as her prompts cover health, relationships, career, mindful living and more. An excellent gift for someone who believes in self-care and wants to explore more deeply.

All Along You Were Blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols (poetry): This book is a balm for the soul. I often pick up this book of poems and art and open to a random page when I’m feeling discouraged, agitated or sad. Reading one of Morgan’s poems reminds me that I am not alone in my struggle. The imagery is beautiful and uplifting and her words are incredibly soothing. I recommend for someone who needs some encouragement in their life.

Keep Moving by Maggie Smith (non-fiction): Written during the time Maggie was grieving her divorce, this is a small, easy-to-read inspirational quote type of book. I love the different fonts and colors throughout. This is the perfect accompaniment for your five minute reconnect with yourself time.

Untamed by Glennon Doyle (memoir): I’m sure many of you have read Untamed but in case not, put it on your list! It’s especially fitting for parents, but I think all womxn will feel empowered by reading this book.

Heart Talk: The Journal by Cleo Wade (guided journal): Cleo Wade’s words and font style draw me right in. Her message is universal and I love that she created a journal from her Heat Talk book. If you like guided journal prompts you’ll enjoy this gem of a book!
